About
Rutherford College has a strong tradition of supporting talented singers through school productions, Studio Shows, Rutherford Idol, the school choir, various smaller singing groups such as Jipers, No RightTurn. This year the school choir continues to provide students the opportunity to sing as part of a large group. A wide variety of music is sung, from RnB music to Renaissance to pop music.

This year after increased publicity, a new teacher and rebuilding, the choir has expanded considerably and participated in the annual Big Sing NZ Secondary Schools Choral Festival for the first time in several years. What's more is the school choir was chosen to be one of the few out of many school choirs to perform at the Big Sing Gala Performance!
The choir is led by new HOD of music Mrs Faaea and rehearses every Tuesday lunchtime and form period (1.15-2.15pm) in Music Room 9.

The choir performed at 'The Big Sing' Secondary Schools Choral Festival in the 1st session on Tuesday morning 20 June 2006.
The Rutherford Singers were also fortunate to be one of about 20 schools from the 50 that entered the Big Sing to be invited to perform at the Big Sing Gala Festival, not to mention the only West Auckland school!
The choir will also be performing at the public farewell evening for principal Mr Edmeades on Friday 23 June 2006.
How to Join
If you like singing, or just want to have a go, then you can always join the choir.
Currently there is only one choir, but when numbers increase, more groups may be created.
Singers fit under one of the following categories:
-Soprano: People who can sing really high
-Alto: People who usually sing around middle pitch (most people are this)
-Tenor: Slightly lower-pitched people
-Bass: The most obvious - really really deep voices
You don't have to be a professional. You just have to be committed and willing to learn and perform!
If there are numbers, more groups can be started up such as:
-Junior Choir
-Senior Choir
-Boys/Girls Harmony Group
CURRENTLY no auditions are necessary to join the choir. Just turn up in Music Room 9 on Tuesday lunchtime (1.15-2.15pm). If you want more information see the HOD of Music Ms Faaea in the Performing Arts Department.
