Prefecting the Prefects
The Rutherford Prefects were appointed in November 2006. Back then, we knew little of each other. Back then, our skills in leadership were raw. Back then, we encompassed only 85% of the Rutherford Way. “Help Us!” we shouted extravagantly. Our calls for aid were answered in the form of the AUT Prefects Camp in February 07 and what an aid it was indeed.

Submit Your Work

The newspaper team are always on the lookout for content concerning Rutherford students that are written by students themselves.

Student work may be about:

  • An interesting event that has happened at school
  • Sports games or competitions
  • A student achievement e.g. a placing in a regional bowling championship
  • Issues relating to school e.g. uniform, litter, etc
  • Student work e.g. artwork, poetry, stories
  • Photos of students/events around school
  • Video of a student performance, event, anything that has happened at school

If you want your work published in the student newspaper, you can hand in a copy of your work to Mrs Betanzo in Room 12. Articles may be submitted in either hard copy or electronic format (floppy disk/CD-ROM), however electronic format is preferable.

Whether your work gets published may come down to a number of factors, including space available, and ultimately the editor’s decision. The editor has the right to edit your work as she sees fit.

Join the Team 

If you want to be a regular contributor to the student newspaper, why not join the reporting team?

The student newspaper team are always open to new members. If any of the following sounds like you then you may want to consider joining!

  • Enjoys writing
  • Is opinionated
  • Likes to communicate with people
  • Interested in the current events of the school
  • Is good with a camera or likes to take photos

Advertising Information

The student newspaper relies on funding through advertising to get the newspaper off the ground, and so any offers would greatly be appreciated.

  • The Kotuku Quarterly is distributed around the school in and in the community, 500 copies are printed
  • The newspaper is in black and white
  • We are happy to design an advert for you, free of charge
